Everybody's free (to feel good)

I’ve doing a lot of thinking over the last few days… there’s thinking thinking, then there’s doing your own head in thinking. I have most definitely been doing the 2nd one.

There now follows a train of thought, and I am going to do my best to be articulate but I write the way I speak so good luck keeping up.

How did we end up so stressed? Is it because we have multiple methods of news sources throughout our day? Once upon a time the main method of finding ANYTHING out was the newspapers first thing in the morning, and the radio (Not everyone had a TV when I was growing up). Is that a big cause of stress? Do you secretly yearn for somewhere that has no wifi connection? How on earth did we end up having telephone TV and wifi, as well as a mobile phone, as basic needs? Could you give one of them up?

I recently cancelled Sky TV, but could I cancel Netflix? Nope. Could I cancel Amazon? Nope because not paying for deliveries is awesome.

Then I got to thinking of how often any of us do anything social in our homes anymore. With texting and facetime our chums and boyfriends are never far away but, reading this, when was the last time anyone popped round, or you invited them round? Our homes are our sanctuary, but does sometimes feel like splendid isolation?

It’s a rough time of year just now, as we hurtle towards the winter solstice, but after that it gets lighter by 3 minutes every day, the we just have to get through January which has 74 days in it.

I am starting to think now, about how to add more VALUE to my life. Don’t get me wrong, I have sweet FA to complain about, but sometimes I do get to thinking about what it was like inviting friends round on a Sunday afternoon to watch re-runs of The Tube (it was a music show with Jools Holland, and Paula Yates), or discussing what Top of the Pops was like that week, and John Taylors new hair do, does it happen anymore? I am resurrecting it right here in my hoose.

Connection and belonging and 2 of the most important things in the world I feel, but have we forgotten how to do it? I feel valued when people spend quality time with me, ask me out for a walk, or have a great weekend away with my beau, do you have that time planned in with people? Make sure that you do.

Personally, I have a real hankering to start hosting a book group because, to be honest, I don’t read enough fiction, it’s mostly business guru and critical thinking books I read. Recommendations welcome.

There will be many of you with Christmas nights out planned, but how about making an invite for chums to come round to your house just for the sake of it? Also, if you have self employed people in your life, make sure that you check up on them ,and make sure they have had human contact too, especially if you know their work involves being stuck at a computer for most the day.

Everybody’s free to feel good, free with your time that is.
