What to expect, when you are expecting a great pregnancy massage...

Pregnancy massage is just a great massage done in a side lying position. If I treating a client who is NOT pregnant, and I want to get deeper into the hips and shoulders, I put them into a side lying position, its super effective! In a side lying position I am able to treat one side of your back, your hip and your whole leg. Its like playing a record because half way through I take hold of the sheet you are lying under like a magician, and get you to do a 3 point turn onto the other side.

When I am looking after pregnant ladies, I always explain that I am not going to beat them up, but at the same time, its going to be more than a skin polish. I always want my clients to leave here feeling they have spent their time well, and they’ve had a great treatment.

If you are pregnant and reading this, you are building a human and thats a huge project! There’s a whole heap of stuff going on and every week it will feel like you are picking up a different kettlebell and walking around with it. Also, if you can imagine, under the surface of your skin, you have a layer of connective tissue called fascia. It gives us our shape and form, and its like having a scuba suit under the surface of your skin. if you can imagine that as your baby blossoms and grows extending out the front, round the back, your scuba suit starts to feel the strain of keeping a baby suspended in mid air! Thats where I come in to help smooth out all the creases.

The first time I meet a pregnancy client is normally around the 27/28 week mark as that is when the first big growth spurt can take place. The next one after that is around the 34/35 week mark when you start to feel tired but wired, and want to eat everything in the fridge.

Also, there is no cut off point for getting pregnancy massage, as long as a client is happy getting on and off of a couch, and the midwife says to go for it, there’s no problem. I have had ladies come to see me the day before their due date, again no problem although I do glance at my pile of fresh towels and fill the kettle up just in case.

I hope this post is helpful if you are researching pregnancy massage and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me!
