Just one thing!

A few weeks ago, I got to thinking about my exercise, and what I do to keep fit, and more importantly, what I enjoy doing to maintain my fitness levels.

Here's a heads up.  Sometimes when it comes to diet and exercise, I do actually have the attention span of a goldfish.  Yes, I have been weight training for a number of years now, but to partner that, I keep adding and subtracting all the time.  I love yoga, then I love pilates, then I love something else. Apart from weight training, I realised that I wasn't being consistent with my accessory training.

All that changed last year when I went and got properly fitted for running shoes.  Then I started going out running with Daniel from work. It was amazing when one night we were out, I remarked that once upon a time, running from Buchanan Street to the Science Centre in Govan seemed like a challenge, and now we both rattle it out like its nothing.

Consistency has been the key here, and now I have entered the world of looking for jackets with taped seams to up the ante on being water proof, and blue tooth headphones to listen to music on.  I'm getting up hills that I previously chickened out on before, and I'm going distances that I would have ended up walking a lot of before too.

A good friend of mine introduced me to a very very simple mindset that, on reflection makes such a lot of sense when you unpack it a bit more.

One day at a time.

Read that again.

One day at a time.

It is really important to think this way because, sometimes we all have crap days when we don't eat as 'well' as we could (mine in peanut butter or anything Reece's), or maybe we skipped going to the gym because the bed was too comfy, or it's raining outside.

Just because you have a crap day today, doesn't mean to say you have to have a crap day tomorrow.

One day at a time.  Make up a tracker sheet so you can keep count of all your activities for the week and then review how you did at the end of the week and what you may want to do differently the next time.

If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old.

What are my goals for running?  Manage a sub 60min 10K (and get a medal), and to still look decent in a pair of jeans.

That's it!

It's taken me years to having a love hate relationship with running, and now I can finally say, I kinda sorta love it.
