Can a massage gun help?

I don’t know about you, but I am getting masses of adverts on social media to do with brands of massage guns. My clients also must be getting these adverts because 3 this week have asked me about the effectiveness of them.

Here is my take on it.

And this is must my opinion please bear in mind. In order you use a massage gun, you have to know HOW to use it, WHY you are using it, and WHERE to use it. Do your homework before a purchase.

It’s percussive therapy, and not meant to be performed for more than 2 minutes at a time.

I have never used one in practice, and I have never used one personally so I can’t comment on that, but I do know what it CAN’T do. As usual, as a woman, it’s always us that gets targeted first with the whole ‘tone up and lose cellulite’ message. It can’t do either.

Please also note that most reviews of massage guns only go by battery life, the attachments you get, and the size of the instrument.

I haven’t read anything in any review that says it changed their life and it’s the best thing they’ve ever done. You also don’t get expert feedback and worldclass banter from a massage gun. Massage guns also don’t keep notes on how you are doing, and ask you how your sleep is.

It’s quite an investment, but what for? Please don’t buy one thinking it will change your life and make you feel amazing. I would say yes if you are planning to cycle round the coast of Britain yourself and you come in and I can train you where to use and for how long, and where never to use it.

Please don’t use it on your neck, EVER.

The muscles in your neck are like a superhero sheild and they are protecting some really bad ass veins an ateries, as well as nerves. It’s a no from me.

So that’s it. Short and sweet, my take on a massage gun.

If you have a foam roller in your house, and you are not using it, you won’t use this either if you purchase it.

I’m pretty confident about that.

Onward!
